HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY
ELVIRA NICAABSTRACT. The objective of this paper is to emphasize the significant role that education institutions play in cities’ economic development, the important role a university can play in the local economy, and the knowledge creation process of firms. My analysis complements the growing literature on the increasing importance of network economies, the introduction of the market to public education, and the role of higher education institutions in regional development. pp. 58–63
