THE SOCIAL STRUCTURE OF CITIES: THE MULTIDIMENSIONAL NATURE OF URBAN INEQUALITY
ALEXANDRA DANA MEILĂABSTRACT. Insights from literature (e.g. Muñoz-Erickson, Miller, and Miller, 2017; Sampson, 2018; Wachsmuth and Angelo, 2018, etc.) suggest that disparities in the physical robustness and social infrastructure of cities represent a menace to urban sustainability and challenge the capacity of cities to jointly take action to environmental threats. Using data from Arcadis Sustainable Cities Mobility Index, Statista, UNSD, WHO, and World Economic Forum, I performed analyses and made estimates regarding the world’s top cities for sustainable public transport, the world’s most polluted cities, the world’s most sustainable cities, % of urban population living in slums, and average ratio of land consumption rate to population growth rate.
