ABSTRACT. The collection gathered under the heading of this Special Issue of Knowledge Cultures arises from a one-day conference hosted by the School of Education of Auckland University of Technology, on 4th July 2014. This conference was an opportunity to formally acknowledge the establishment of the “Educational Ideas” Special Interest Group (SIG) of the New Zealand Association for Research in Education (NZARE). The “Education Policy” SIG of NZARE was invited to join this conference, and one of its co-ordinators, John O’Neill, contributed one of the responses to the keynote address, written by Michael Peters. The Educational Ideas SIG shares much in common with the Educational Theory and Philosophy SIG of the Australian Association for Research in Education (AARE), both in turn acknowledging their special link to the Philosophy of Education Society of Australasia (PESA). pp. 11–15
