ABSTRACT. The purpose of this study is to examine extended reality environments developing on synthetic data interoperability, 3D modeling and simulation technologies, and data mining and immersive decentralized networking tools. In this article, previous research findings were cumulated indicating that geospatial mapping and virtual modeling technologies, immersive visualization systems, and multiple graphic processing units are instrumental in interconnected virtual worlds. The contribution to the literature on the blockchain-based virtual economy developing on edge computing and image recognition technologies, data mining and virtual navigation tools, and voice recognition software is by showing that the metaverse interactive environment integrate networked embedded sensing devices, deep generative model- ing and digital twin simulation tools, and 3D immersive content. Throughout May 2022, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was performed, with search terms including “the metaverse interactive environment” + “spatial computing and 3D immersive virtual reality technologies,” “simulation modeling and deep learning artificial intelligence tools,” and “Internet of Things-based decision support and remote sensing systems.” As research published in 2022 was inspected, only 141 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria, and 27 sources were selected. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: AXIS, Dedoose, MMAT, and SRDR.
