Multi-Sensory Extended Reality and Machine Vision Technologies, Spatio-Temporal Fusion and Object Recognition Algorithms, and Internet of Robotic Things-based Context-Aware and Networked Manufacturing Systems for Virtual Factories in Artificial Intelligence-based Digital Twin Industrial Metaverse

Despite the relevance of real-time remote assistance and control across metaverse-based industrial services in extended reality environments, only limited research has been conducted on this topic. Throughout July 2024, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was performed, with search terms including “virtual factories in artificial intelligence-based digital twin industrial metaverse” + “multi-sensory extended reality and machine vision technologies,” “spatio-temporal fusion and object recognition algorithms,” and “Internet of Robotic Things-based context-aware and networked manufacturing systems.” As research published in 2022 and 2023 was inspected, only 163 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria, and 18 mainly empirical sources were selected. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: AXIS, CASP, PICO Portal, Rayyan, SluRp, and SRDR+.
