THE SWEDISH NOTION OF THE LOCAL WELFARE STATE
DOINA POPESCU LJUNGHOLMABSTRACT. The theory that I shall seek to elaborate here puts considerable emphasis on the formation of welfare attitudes in Sweden, the rising level of local government expenditures for running different public services, constitutional protections for local government, and the operational performance of Sweden’s traditional government by committee system. The findings of this study have implications for the logic of competition through market-orientation governance among local governments in Sweden, welfare state development in the Nordic countries, the power of local government in state and society, and the emergence of the Social Democratic welfare state. pp. 154–159
