THE INFLUENCE OF CORRUPTION ON POLITICAL PARTICIPATION
LUMINITA IONESCUABSTRACT. The aim of the present study is to examine and evaluate the extent to which elected officials engage in corruption, the effects of information about corruption on electoral outcomes, and corruption’s impact on democratic participation. The theory that I shall seek to elaborate here puts considerable emphasis on the relationship between institutional details of proportional representation electoral systems and corruption, the willingness of autocratic regimes to erect credible anticorruption institutions, and the specifically political determinants of corruption. pp. 184–189
