ABSTRACT. The theory that we shall seek to elaborate here puts considerable emphasis on Durkheim’s science of morality, the scope of the right to religious freedom, and the freedom to practice one’s religion. Our analysis complements the growing literature on Rawls’s interpretation of religion, the place of religion in the public sphere, and the relationship between human rights and religious arguments. pp. 236–241
