Internet of Things-based Patient Health Monitoring Services, Extended Reality and Digital Twin Technologies, and Real-time 3D Virtual Diagnosis and Treatment Simulations for Personalized Care in the Healthcare Metaverse
George Lăzăroiu*ABSTRACT. The purpose of this study is to examine extended reality and metaverse technologies optimizing immersive virtual healthcare, remote patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, virtual diagnostics and therapeutics modeling, and artificial intelligence-based immersive virtual healthcare. In this article, previous research findings were cumulated indicating that extended reality and digital twin technologies can accurately gather and assess big healthcare data in immersive metaverse environments. Throughout February 2023, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was performed, with search terms including “personalized care in the healthcare metaverse” + “Internet of Things-based patient health monitoring services,” “extended reality and digital twin technologies,” and “real-time 3D virtual diagnosis and treatment simulations.” As research published between 2022 and 2023 was inspected, only 170 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria, and 23 mainly empirical sources were selected. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: AXIS, Dedoose, MMAT, and SRDR.
Keywords: Internet of Things; extended reality; digital twin; 3D virtual diagnosis and treatment; personalized care; healthcare metaverse
