Virtual Healthcare Technologies and Consultation Systems, Smart Operating Rooms, and Remote Sensing Data Fusion Algorithms in the Medical Metaverse
Elvira Nica*ABSTRACT. The objective of this paper is to systematically review artificial intelligence-enabled wearable medical devices, virtual scanning capabilities, and sensor-based personalized healthcare systems in immersive 3D experiences in virtual healthcare. The findings and analyses highlight that Internet of Things-based health monitoring systems deploy synthetic patient data, digital twin and blockchain technologies, and spatial data visualization tools in 3D virtual spaces and multisensory environments. Throughout May 2022, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was performed, with search terms including “the medical metaverse” + “virtual healthcare technologies and consultation systems,” “smart operating rooms,” and “remote sensing data fusion algorithms.” As research published in 2022 was inspected, only 146 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria. By taking out controversial or ambiguous findings (insufficient/irrelevant data), outcomes unsubstantiated by replication, too general material, or studies with nearly identical titles, I selected 34 mainly empirical sources. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: AMSTAR, Dedoose, Distiller SR, and SRDR.
Keywords: virtual; healthcare; consultation; remote; sensor; medical; metaverse
