The purpose of this study is to examine environmentally aware wireless communication and virtual reality-based visual perception technologies, photorealistic synthetic images and data, and collaborative industrial artificial-intelligence-based Internet of Things factory systems. Throughout August 2023, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was performed, with search terms including “virtual machines and factories in extended reality environments” + “environmentally aware wireless communication and digital twin technologies,” “metaverse economic and 6G collaborative industrial artificial intelligence-based Internet of Things factory systems,” and “spatio-temporal fusion and environment mapping algorithms.” As research published in 2022 and 2023 was inspected, only 162 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria, and 19 mainly empirical sources were selected. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: CASP, DistillerSR, Litstream, METAGEAR package for R, Nested Knowledge, and Rayyan.
