ABSTRACT. Despite the relevance of synthetic data and virtual twin modeling tools, real-time 3D rendering and performance capture technologies, and cognitive computing and Internet of Things-based sensing systems, only limited research has been conducted on this topic. In this article, I cumulate previous research findings indicating that virtual holographic objects, wearable haptic garments, and implantable intra-body sensors configure 3D virtual environments and the industrial metaverse. Throughout January 2023, I performed a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases, with search terms including “the immersive industrial metaverse” + “cyber-physical production and multi-sensor fusion systems,” “3D digital twin modeling and image-based visual computing technologies,” and “virtual machine and environment mapping algorithms.” As I inspected research published between 2022 and 2023, only 151 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria. By eliminating controversial findings, outcomes unsubstantiated by replication, too imprecise material, or having similar titles, I decided upon 24, generally empirical, sources. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: AXIS, Dedoose, Distiller SR, and MMAT.
