ABSTRACT. This article reviews and advances existing literature concerning cyber-physical system-based smart manufacturing. Using and replicating data from Bain & Company, Deloitte, European Business Summit, Management Events, McKinsey, PwC, and World Economic Forum, I performed analyses and made estimates regarding current initiatives in digital concepts and design by CIOs (%), current priorities in digital platforms and solutions by CIOs (%), quality benefits of Industry 4.0 applications (%, degree of the effect), importance of the analysis and use of data for the business model (%), and significance of barriers to change, industries overall (%). Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling.
