ABSTRACT. Schäfer et al. highlight how European Union (EU) policies can be assessed and reformed to improve the nutrition and public health of Europe’s citizens. Warner holds that the EU’s 90 billion euro annual budget reflects the EU’s hybrid nature and the extent to which the member states try to retain control over the supranational organization and institutions they have created. Hasha points out that the EU is the world’s largest agricultural importer, and the world’s second largest exporter. Delayen writes that during the 1960s and 1970s, the CAP led to increased agricultural production in Europe and was generally considered a positive vision for growth in the post-war region.
