ABSTRACT. Despite the relevance of immersive healthcare experiences of video-realistic digital avatars in virtual operating rooms across the medical metaverse, only limited research has been conducted on this topic. In this article, I cumulate previous research findings indicating that real-time motion capture data and cloud-based digital twin technologies assist immersive virtual simulation technologies as regards medical condition monitoring and virtual diagnosis and treatment. I contribute to the literature on metaverse engagement and experiences in immersive virtual settings in relation to remote patient monitoring by showing that 3D virtual clinics require wearable Internet of Medical Things sensor devices, blockchain-based medical data sharing, and motion sensing technology. Throughout June 2022, I performed a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases, with search terms including “metaverse medical platforms” + “immersive virtual reality technologies,” “3D data modeling and simulation tools,” and “artificial intelligence-based diagnostic algorithms.” As I inspected research published in 2022, only 140 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria. By eliminating controversial findings, outcomes unsubstantiated by replication, too imprecise material, or having similar titles, I decided upon 28, generally empirical, sources. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: AXIS, Dedoose, Distiller SR, and MMAT.

Keywords: modeling; simulation; artificial intelligence; diagnostic; metaverse; medical platform
