ABSTRACT. The purpose of this article is to gain a deeper understanding of the function of knowledge in the economy, the social configuration of knowledge production and supervision, and the organization and strength of knowledge-based sectors. We are specifically interested in how previous research investigated the character and extent of the knowledge-based economy, the relevance of knowledge in economic activity, and elements and determinants of the knowledge economy. The results of the current study converge with prior research on the economic importance of knowledge associated with production techniques, resource readiness, and market circumstances, the dynamic and broad role of knowledge in the economy, and market processes that make the knowledge economy viable. pp. 168–174
