ABSTRACT. Held remarks that it is easy to mistake an account of the globalization of communications with an account of the globalization of culture. According to Tomlinson, the idea of deterritorialization grasps the way in which events outside of our immediate localities are increasingly consequential for our experience. Buzan thinks it would be a mistake to assume that the whole world has reformed itself in the same way that the most advanced parts of the world have; the world is really divided into two or three spheres in which the rules of the game are quite different because the level of globalization is very differently distributed.
