Faces of Jane Eyre

Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre is a nineteenth-century text which has inspired writers, filmmakers and audiences throughout the ages, as witnessed by the number of revisions which continue to be launched. The following paper examines four of the foremost cinematic representations. Specifically, it focuses on the relationship between the heroine and the madwoman, a relationship which is deemed to be of equal, if not of more importance, than that of Jane Eyre and Rochester. pp. 183–187
