ABSTRACT. The purpose of this study is to examine the causes of financial development and of the effects of corruption in Russia, the causes of corruption in Russia, the new Russian leadership’s attitude toward corruption, the continuing outsize role of crime and corruption in Russia, and the legal infrastructure necessary to combat crime and corruption. The findings of this study have implications for the interdependence of economic crimes and corruption, the tremendous increase of crime and corruption, the criminalization of Russian society, the increased level of corruption in Russia, and modern corruption and organized crime as a product of criminal–business relationships. pp. 137–142
