ABSTRACT. In this paper we are particularly interested in exploring China’s increasing economic integration with Africa, the importance of the innovations launched in Shenzhen for the entire country, and China’s place as one of the major economic powers. The results of the current study converge with prior research on the production of space, the accelerated rise of Shenzhen, Shenzhen’s pioneering role in economic reform and development, and the impact of China’s economic engagement in Africa. pp. 132–137
