ABSTRACT. Rusali and Gavrilescu claim that the general evolution trend of the Romanian agri-food trade flows after 1989 was a massive increase in imports and a drastic decrease of exports which resulted in a serious trade disequilibrium. Redžepagić remarks that in Romania the share of the work force in agriculture has increased since 1989, as farming may act as a buffer providing an element of food security and additional income during the transition process. Fogarasi argues that the export share of Romanian agricultural products has decreased in the Hungarian agri-food import between 1999 and 2005.
