ABSTRACT. Adorno argues that in authentic art affirmation becomes the cipher of despair and the purest negativity of content contains a grain of affirmation. Schulz writes that expressive performance consists in the complete representation of the character and expression of the work. A refrain in a narrative retains its autonomy yet plays an indispensable role in the development of a narrative, even a generative one (Butterfield).
