Abstract. The following paper aims to review the extensive analysis offered by Istvan Csicsery-Ronay Jr. in The seven beauties of science fiction (2008) on the varied points of confluence the science fiction genre has with the arts and the sciences, with history, linguistics and sociology. He proposes seven categories (“tools”) for a critical reading of SF, as a constellation on the black canvas of postmodern theory, focusing on science fiction’s main features and relations to its literary predecessors and on the pervasive state science and technology reached in humanity’s present endeavors, relations and identities (Middletown, CT: Wesleyan University Press, 2008).

Key words: science fiction; postmodernism; novums; neologism; history; paradigm; artificial intelligence; sublime; grotesque; singularity; science; technology; literature
