ABSTRACT. This paper seeks to fill a gap in the current literature by examining Montesquieu’s preoccupation with the separation of powers and his constitutionalism, Hobbes’s political thought, Bodin’s theory of absolute and undivided sovereignty. This study is grounded in the considerable body of scholarship examining Montesquieu’s natural comparative constitutional law and his investigation of the nature and preconditions of liberty, the establishment of the state in Hobbes, and Bodin’s moralism. pp. 242–247
